The Five Goat Statue is one of the
city symbols of Guangzhou (Wuyangcheng - The Five Goat City), situated
in the province of Guandong in the southern part of China. The goat
statue symbol is a tribute to the ancient legend of the five celestial
goats that were accompanied by five deities to the land
below. The five goats brought plentiful of rice to the land
where they landed and ensured that the land (now known as Guangzhou)
would be free from famine. Gunagzhou is also known as Huacheng
(the Flower City) and Suicheng (the Rice-Ear City). |
