Yellow Wax Stone

Yellow Wax stones are generally found in riverbeds of Guangdong and Guangxi provinces.  The stone's name comes from its distinctive deep and rich yellow color together with the surfaces looking silky and shiny like wax.  Similarly to Red River stones, Yellow Wax stones are not available in great quantities and have been collected for over 400 years since around the time of Qing dynasty (1644-1922).  Yellow Wax stones are likened for their unique color and their hardness value is often compared with jade.  Quartz is known to be the underlying mineral that makes the stones very hard.  The textures of the stones are either smooth with no perforations or sponge patterns with small cavities and shallow crevices can be found.                                          back to the top
